Alternatives to text boxes

Version: 2008 Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) I used to like to use text boxes to insert notes to myself on drafts of documents next to the text in question (some notes use drawings) and for inserting pictures. By using text boxes I could move these items where I wished in the document.

However, in my current version of Word, text boxes are much more difficult. Indeed, moving them is like trying to herd cats.

In another thread the moderator suggested that one should avoid using text boxes for this reason. What alternative function do you suggest?

Anything wrong with inserting Comments? You can paste pictures from
clipboard into Comments too. For complex drawings and comments, keep
the in a separate document with a reference pointer put in Comments,
e.g. "For more on this comment, see comments.docx, Item 2."

As Rob suggested (& as suggested by John in your other posting of the same
issue in another thread -- please don't do that) Comments are the closest
option there is. Comments, however, cannot be dragged around. Word is not
equipped nor designed for the purpose of plastering a document with the
equivalent of 'sticky notes'.

You might also consider converting Text Boxes to Frames (see Word Help on
the distinction) or using 1-cell tables. Either are still attached to the
text as objects, so they may not offer a significant advantage over text
boxes.
