Am I out of luck?

Terry Gregory

I just purchased a new copy of Office for Students and
Teachers last night. I purchased it because it said I
could have it on up to three computers. I have two kids
in college and my wife is an educator. Go to load it on
the second computer and it says cannot activate it on
that computer. Then it hits me...this is Office for
Students XP!! not 2003. Am I not out of luck and have not
recourse?

Hi Terry,

MS Office software has a 30 day money back guarantee
from MS (in the U.S. - other countries may vary).
If your retailer won't accept the return you can
do it through Microsoft. There should be information
in the product box or http://microsoft.com/info/nareturns.htm

Hi Terry

I also just purchased MS Office for Students and Teachers 2003. During Setup I was prompted to activate this product because it is REQUIRED, thus making my "copy of the Office 2003 Edition to be installed on only ONE PC. I have already submitted my concern to MS Online Assisted Support. This is total BS. Please keep me informed as to what you find out

No, what you've just typed is total BS. You activate the other two by phone.

if the EULA says 3 computers, it's good for three computers.

1) you will need to activate all three copies
2) what exactly did the dialog say that makes you think it's only good for
one install?
3) if the other two don't activate over the net, you'll need to call in.
4) save your activations so it's easier if you need to reinstall -

Hi Terry,

No you are not out of luck and recourse. If you go to
any of the MS Office Student and Teacher Edition 2003
applications (i.e. word), click on help, click on about
microsoft word, click on view end user license agreement
link, scroll down to section 1.1 (it clearly states that
we can install it 3 times). Call 1-888-571-2048, the MS
Activation Center when you are ready to install again,
and they will assist you.
