Am unable to open word documents in XP anymore

I've had XP for some time and suddenly I am not able to open any office documents. It says the file is not available. I have checked the extension in the registry and the association is valid ( doc opens with Word etc..) Also, though I can open word, excel, ppt new files when I save it I can not open it again.

If this is ANY Office document and you are using Norton Anti Virus, open NAV
and disable the Office Plug-in option.

I'm running XP as well and can no longer open, or create,
save and open Word docs either - same error message. That
was after upgrading to the Office 2003 version I purchsed
through my company for home use. When I tried to submit
an icident an get a response online (my one free shot),
the servicw ould not accept a VALID product code. Have
yuo had any luck getting an answer?

Terry I run the corporate edition of Norton Anti Virus. I
don't see an option to disable the Office plug-In. Is it
different in the corporate edition? I can get to the NAV
2002 version from the Start Menu, but cannot launch it.
I'm assuming that'e because it was replaced by the
corporate edition supplied by my company.

Thanks! George

If Norton AV was installed at one time then the DLL for the Office
Plug-in could still be registered.

Search for : officeav.dll

If you find it then go to Start/Run and run the following command:

regsvr32 /u "<path>\officeav.dll"

Here is a KB article that provides a few additional details. It does
not include information on Norton CE but it will contain additional
details on the unregister command if you need them:
