An existing file will not open

I use Excel 11.6.1 on a PBG4. An existing file, last accessed and
saved 3 weeks ago will not open. If I start excel and select the file
from the recent files list I see the 'Open' box with the 'Opening
xxx.xls' and progress bar. the bar moves across the page the box
closes and ... nothing. All I have is the Excel menu and tool bars, no
file. I have tried opening the file from Finder and the same thing
happens. I have also tried to load a back up version and the same
thing happens. If i open other files I have no problem.

help would be appreciated.

I am having the same problem. Did you get yours resolved? If so, what do I need to do.

I had missed an update to Office. You know the reminders and how sometimes you are busy and click 'not now'.
Once I had installed the update the file opened with no problem. Why it affected some files and not others I have no idea.
