Analyse Report with Excel changes cell format

I have a report which I need to export to excel - I use the report option
as this allows me to group the software by the server it is installed on.
There are 3000+ rows of information associated with over 200 servers). but I
have a problem with the text values when they are exported to excel.

Despite all my fields being text values, when I use the report functionality
and then use "Analyse with Excel", it changes many of the version numbers of
pieces of software ie 6.2.1 (recorded as a text value in the field) to a
decimalised number (ie 0.25355614), rendering the report useless, as I can
not
change the data back by changing the column format.

When I check the data of the underlying tables and queries and the run the
report the data looks OK and keeps the original format - It is only when I
send it to
excel that it is a problem.

I have looked at the report design and this looks OK, but I cannot change
the format of the field on the report (The drop down menu for format shows no
values).

Is this just a feature of Access/Excel reports? or is there something I can
do elsewhere to rectify? I don;t won't to be manually cutting and copying the
data from the very original source like I had to do as a last resort to
ensure the correct format of data.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

I am having similar problem as Des King.. I have a text field in my report
that have the value "3A", but when I analyse the report with excel, the field
value changes to 0.125.

I do not get similar problems when the value for the same text field is
"2C", "2B" or "3C". Why is it that only "3A" encounters such a problem?
How can we resolve this problem?

Thanks!
