Analysis Services - OLAP account and separate server

Darek

Hi,

Our system is built on three servers:
first - Project Server 2003 and WSS
second - SQL Server 2000
third - Analysis Services

Everything seems to work OK except building OLAP cube.
I cant connect to AS server.
I added "olapadmin" account to OLAP Administrators group
on Project Server and AS server. Do I need to do it on SQL
Server also ?
Can Analysis Services run on machine without SQL Server ?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi:

Have you gone through the post installation tasks of the
project server installation guide.
You have to migrate the analysis services repository and
move a file to the IIS (MSOlap.asp)

If you achieve building the cube I'd love to know because
I would like to install Analysis services in a different
server as well.

No, I have not migrated repository yet because I cannot
connect to that separate server on which AS is installed.

Up to now I worked with the system where AS and SQL Server
were installed on the same machine. I had no problem in
building OLAP cube.

But now I have SQL Server and AS installed on separate
machines.

I'll let you know if I figure out how to do it.

Did either of you or anyone else get this model working with a separate
Analysis Services system? In my situation the SQL admin does not want AS
installed onto the same box that is sharing other SQL DB's, and is forcing
the implementation in a 3 server direction.

The help about partitioning the DB does not really apply.

Thanks--Bill

Rick,

I ended up talking them into using the same box, however -- in researching
this it seemed as if there would not be a problem doing this. The Analysis
Services environment would need to be built prior to pointing Project Server
at the system, and you would probably for sure want to use domain accounts in
the environment, but then you should just be able to point the portfolio
analyzer at the correct AS box from the PWA Admin / Enterprise Features
section where you would kick off a cube update.

Good luck--Bill
