AND IF problem

I'm trying to reference a cell and change the value of a number. If the
referenced cell has a value of 1-10, I want the cell (with the formula) to
return the true value. If the cell has a value over 10 and less than 18, I
want it to return a value of 0. I'm writing formulas like crazy, but none
work. Anybody???

And if the value is over 18? For now, try:

=IF(A1<=10,A1,IF(AND(A1>10,A1<=18),0,"try again"))

or maybe

=(A1<=10)*A1
