Animate similar/same element on multiple slides / duplicate animat

Hello. I'd like to request some advice. I am using PPT 2007 on Win XP. I
created an animation on one slide that I got to work correctly. I want to use
modifications of this animation on additional slides.

[Trial #1] So I copied the slide and began to make modifications. When I
finished these, I observed that the original slide had lost all of the
animation commands!

Well, I thought, perhaps I reallly hadn't made of copy of the slide; perhaps
I just made changes on the Original slide.

[Trial #2] Thus, I backed up the presentation, and tried this again. Well,
part way through, I compared the slides, and the original slide now looked
like the slide that I was editing (except that the proportions were wrong,
and so most of the graphics did not line up!)! I selected "undo" a number of
times, and got back to 2 distinct slides.

[Trial #3] Before I went back to fix them, I wondered if powerpoint was
unable to handle 2 slides with the same graphic element names. So, in one of
the slides, I modified all of the names of the graphics - of both individuals
and groups. I started to edit, and compared the slides again. Well, now there
are 4 slides with one of the animation schemes. And in all the versions -
including the 5th slide with a different animation scheme - have lost the
registration on many of the parts.

I've seen some amazing animations - ones that are certainly more complicated
that what I am trying to animate. So what am I doing wrong????

PS - I ought to clarify. The differences in the 2 slides are not yet in
animation sequence. The first thing that I had to do was to resize the
picture; and then I was going to change the animation. But since it seems
both resized and original pictures are not yet back to their original states,
I don't want to make more changes that may not work.

Now that's just plain weird. AFAIK it's not possible to edit 2 slides at
once. You were working on normal slides, right? Not masters?

Been there, done that ;-)

Again with the weird. Thank the computer gods for ctrl+z.

Unfortunately ungrouping groups gets rid of the animation. Doesn't explain
the problem, but worth a mention in passing :)

When you say 'animation scheme', how exactly are you applying animations?
Using the custom animation pane or using the pre-built ones?

Just for completeness, how did you add the picture(s) to the slide in the
first place?
