Animations not working in slideshow

I created a presentation in PP2003. I went to slideshow menu and selected
animation schemes and chose "Fade in one by one." When I click Play, each
line fades in with a bit of a delay just fine. I selected to apply to all
slides. When I click on slideshow, the first line fades in but then none of
the others do unless I hit the space bar for each line. What am I doing
wrong?

That animation scheme has each top-level bullet animation set to come in on
mouse click.

If you go to the master slide (View|Master|Slide Master) and set the first
bullet to "after previous" instead of "on mouse click," that should make
them come in automatically.
