animations not working

i am using powerpoint 97. i have downloaded an animation from microsoft clipart website. however, after inserting to a slide it does not animate in presentation view. how can i correct this problem?

PowerPoint 97 does not support animated GIFs in the presentation. They
remain static.

As Shyam says, animated GIFs are not supported by PowerPoint 97. You can,
however, convert the GIF to an AVI and insert it as a movie. See
