[ANN] Hot topics for installing 12.1.2 updater

Diane Ross

I've summarized the problems reported by users on the newsgroup regarding
the latest updater in "Hot topics for installing 12.1.2 updater."

The majority of problems seem to be from users that have modified their
system or Office in some way. Some users had not updated to 12.1.1 and have
been hit by the Apple Security update discussed in a previous post, Apple
Security Update blocks Microsoft's update process. Continue reading to see
solutions for updating Office 2008 to 12.1.2.

Diane —

Now I am COMPLETELY frustrated.

Following the instructions in the " <http://tinyurl.com/5ccrge> " link, I reinstalled the Office 2008 suite (12.0.0) ... a "clean" install. In, then, attempting to upgrade with SP1, the system responded that I cannot install it (12.1.0), much less any other upgrade, as my machine is missing necessary files.

Previously, at least I had 12,1.0 (SP1) and 12.1.1 installed ... now
I do not even have those. Please provide some guidance, as I cannot be the only individual with this problem.

Thank you

The install error page might give you clues as to what you did wrong.

Always mind the wrapping. The full link is split on two lines because of
its length:

That's why Diane's posts the TinyURL links as well.

It seems you may be infected with a DNS trojan virus and this is why you cannot do your updates.
Go to this web site and download it and install and it will remove the trojan and then powercycle the modem and see if able to download the update then.

So far, no one has reported being redirected to malicious websites,
which is the purpose of the DNSChanger. The problem is that the link is
wrapping to two lines. Clicking it doesn't pick up the whole link.
