Annoying problem when using PSTs between 2 PCs

I

Irv Rollman

When I was using Outlook XP, I could move PSTs between
PCs easily (desktop and laptop). Since migrating to 2003,
after I move the PST and fire up Outlook, it downloads
messages from the server that it already downloaded.

I have it set to leave messages on the server for 1 day -
I need to do that so a Blackberry device can pick them up
too. But it's annoying to look thru all the last day's
messages and delete duplicates

Any ideas?

Thanks!

it's not recognizing the downloaded messages as downloaded - is the account
information identical between the machines?

That was a good idea, there were a couple of minor
differences, BUT...

It didn't work, I am still getting duplicates. You are
probably right, it is not recognizing the msgs as
downloaded, but why?

FWIW, this only started happening since I upgraded to
Outlook 2003 on the machines. (I upgraded the laptop
first, the problem started. I upgraded the desktop, the
problem persisted.)

the 'key' that tells outlook the message was downloaded is stored in the
pst - apparently the ol2003 version is not working well or it looks at more
than just account information and sees the second machine as a new account.

OK, so is there a solution? Both are running the same
version now, and I'm straight copying the PST between
machines.

See if it's the format of the PSTs that is making the difference.
Temporarily switch to using a '97 to 2002-style PST and try. Just a wild
guess.

How do I change format? I suspect I am using 97-02 PSTs,
as I was originally sharing between versions of Outlook
and never changed the PST type. I am not against
upgrading, as now both systems are on the same version.

File>New>Outlook Data File. You'll get two choices of format. Pick the
other format that the one you're using. Change the default delivery
location to the new PST, put come data in it (copying from the old) and
transfer that to see if it makes a difference.

OK, did that (converted to the new PST format), it didn't
work. Am still getting the duplicate downloads of
messages.

Any other ideas?

How many accounts do you have defined or each machine?
