Another Frontpage 2003 Publishing Question

I'm running FP 2003 on WinXP Pro SP2. I can upload my files (as long as I
upload the whole site i.e. Publish all pages overwriting destination), but
keep getting "Internal Server Error" at the end of the upload when I assume
FP is updating navigation structures, indexes etc. I am unable to Publish
changed pages only, neither am I able to recalculate hyperlinks at the remote
site.

Error message:
"500 Internal Server Error

Internal Server Error The server encountered
an internal error or
misconfiguration and was unable to complete
your request. Please contact the
server administrator, [email protected] and
inform them of the time the
error occurred, and anything you might have
done that may have caused the
error. More information about this error
may be available in the server
error log"

I am not getting anything sensible out of the b-one.net support team apart
from reinstallation of extensions.

I have tried publishing from a freshly installed Windows XP Home also with
FP 2003 and through a different internet connection (different firewalls
presumably, just in case that was where the problem was.)

I haven't been able to extract a straight answer from the b-one guys as to
which version of extensions they're running, but they claim to support FP2003.

Does anyone have any suggestions? Known bugs? Workarounds?

A 500 error is "normally" a permissions error on the server.

Your host needs to check the permission settings for your web account.

A common cause of this / place to start is:
If you are using a hit counter, or any forms, make sure the _private
folder has server write permissions set.

Thanks Steve;

But "no", since I took my forms etc out, presumably I don't have anything
that needs _private access. ( I would love to put it back in though.) Also I
have asked the permissions question (several times actually), and the support
guys claim that everything is as it should be.

Any other suggestions?

I would have your host restore / repair / reinstall the extensions. (
pick one )

A 500 error is a server generated error.
