Another question about getting prompted to insert office CD.

Hello,

I have a bunch of W2K/SP4 boxes and I wish to run Office 2000.

Everytime I launch any MS Office app, I get a window which says "Please
wait while Windows configures Microsoft Office 2000 Professional",
followed by an Error 1706 window.

I've used Google to search this group and while there's lots of threads
regarding this problem, they haven't worked for me.

I've tried to follow 265194 and nothing worked. Part 1 has nothing to
do with the problem. I'm not getting asked for language versions.
Method 2 would only work for administrators (and it doesn't) because
domain users cannot launch regedit. I've tried Method 3 as both domain
users and domain admins and it doesn't work for either.

The users cannot be expected to cancel out of install message boxes 3X
just to be able to launch an Office application. Is there any other
fixes which I could try?

Thanks!

What was the procedure you used for installing
Office 2000 for each user?

Did you install Office 2000 Professional or
Office 2000 SR1 or SR2 Professional Edition
product CDs?

What version of the MS Installer (MSIexec.exe) is
in use on these computers?

Are these single user computers or are you supporting
roaming/travelling users or ??

There are a variety of Error 1706 (can't locate
original installation source location/media) related
possibilities.

Bob,

Thanks for the reply... here's the info...

1. I was logged in as a domain admin and I clicked a bunch of "next"
buttons on the GUI which appears when the CD was placed in the CD ROM.

2. Office 2000 Professional SR 1

3. Not sure... how can I tell?

4. It's a local domain (not connected to the internet), roaming
profiles and home directory hosted on the file server.
