Another question on Insert Field/Database

Why is it that when you insert a field from a database a paragraph mark is
also inserted which cannot be deleted?

I'm trying to insert one field from a database in my document and I want it
inserted on a line that contains other text. After I insert the field, there
is a paragraph mark inserted with it and if I delete that, I delete the field
data.

Is this insertion via vba or using mailmerge?

A database field always results in a table. The paragraph mark is storing
information related to the data connection. Use mail merge if you need to
intersperse your data with text.
