Another stupid newbie question

Can anyone tell me where I can find the 'tick', as
opposed to cross symbol, I've looked everywhere & it's
driving me nuts!!!

ozzie, do you mean the bullet symbol? If so, then Format > Bullets and
Numbering > Bulleted. Select a format, then Customize > Bullet.

In Webdings, you'll find one at row 3, column 10 (at least that's where it
is on my screen).
In Wingdings, row 8, column 25.
In Wingdings2, row 2, column 21.
In ZapfDingbats, row 8, column 25.
