If I have data running along a column is there anyway to "flip" the dat
so it appears in a row?

Copy the data and do paste special > transpose.

Simon,

Data usually runs "down" columns and "across" rows.

Try Edit/Cut or Copy and then
Edit/Paste Special and check the "Transpose" box.

That's great thanks, regarding formatting if the data has symbols at the
start and end of it e.g ",> is there anyway to delete them from all
fields?

Edit Replace - enter symbols you want to delete
leave 2nd box blank, Replace all
