Another XP SP2 problem

T

Targa

I can edit my webs with FP fine however when I download - NOT OPEN LIVE -
any access db and attempt to open, I get a confirmation window asking
weather I want to open it or not. I click Yes but then Access wont let me
open it saying it is unsecure and to copy it to my local machine in order to
open it. IT IS on my local machine!

Damn this pisses me off.

Anyway around this?
Ive already turned off the dang MS Firewall.

Try this:

1. Open the live site.
2. Select the .mdb file.
3. Choose Export from the File menu.
4. Specify a location and then click Save.

You understand, don't you, that someone could specify a
small .mdb file as the target of an innocent-looking
hyperlink? And that the .mdb file could contain a nasty
AutoStart macro?

I know why the feature was implemeted but you dont seem to understand my
issue.

I didnt open the file live from the server - I downloaded/saved it to my
local machine - then tried to open it. For some reason Access still thinks
its on a remote machine.

I did however, figure out that you have to click the "Unblock" button in the
file properties - even with the new XP firewall and protection turned off.

How are you performing this download?

I just tried exporting via FP2003, and I have Windows XP SP2
installed, and I didn't get any unusual prompts.

I copy the .mdb from the fpdb folder to a temp folder on the site, then hit
Preview which prompts you to save it to your local machine.

To avoid corrupting the database, it best to never try to open the database from within FP.

Just right click on the database in the fpdb folder, the File Menu | Export to your desktop then
after updating it, re-import it back into the fpdb folder.
