Any Office 2003 patch update broke .TIF file association?

Hi Guys,
I have Office 2003 Enterprise Professional Service Pack 3 installed on my
company.
I notice that any time I install an Office 2003 patch update .TIF and .TIFF
files association with Ms Office Document Imaging is deleted.
Is it by default behaviuor?
I know that SP3 for Office delete them but also the patches?

This is expected behavior. And before you ask, yes I brought it up to
Microsoft and walked away with the impression that it won't be fixed.
