Any old Publisher 2003 Users?

Robin

Is there anyone in this forum that was a previous user of Pub 2003 for
website creation? If so, did you convert any of your files diectly from
Publisher?
Thanks!

Publisher should never be used for web site creation! That is not it's
purpose and just because you can save pages as HTML doesn't mean that you
should. It produces terrible web site code and you will have all sorts of
grief! Use FrontPage ... !!

I guess my post wasn't clear. I DID use Publisher to create my site, but now
I have purchased Frontpage and was wondering if I could convert to Frontpage
without redoing my entire web site.

Simple answer - No.
It really is easier and faster to start again.
Publisher should NEVER be used for web sites.

Did you see a slightly earlier post? Murray said:
"Your best bet would be to have both apps open and copy and paste content
from the publisher file to FP."
I suggest you start over from scratch. Organize (& Import) the images you
want to use into your images' folder. Copy the text stuff into Notepad to
strip away all the formatting (copy and paste it back into FP) and then use
CSS to reformat the text the way you want it to look. Use tables for layout,
of course.
Otherwise you're always going to have some of that terrible Publisher code
lingering! It's too bad that Microsoft?Publisher allowed and even encourged
you to build a site that way!!
Bite the bullet and recreate the entire site .... especially if it's for a
client.

thank you for that post. I know NOW that I should not have written in
Publisher but that is hindsite. I actually did do some copying and pasting
with both apps open but I haven't considered the Publisher formatting
lingering. Lucky for me it's not a huge website! I have to learn FrontPage
now. I need a crash course! I will say that learning Publisher did help me
to do the basics in Frontpage. Maybe I can get the site converted and up and
running on FP and then I can tweak it with the new "nuts and bolts" that FP
has to offer. Is there any good online documentation on FP? The manual that
I got with the software was terrible.

Thanks for your posts. I am sure they will be helpful. I did see last night
that the program Help was fair - I just had not had the time to delve into it
the first night. I am looking forward to learning FP - I know it will really
open up some options for me that I did not have available with Pub. I am
sure that I will be a common site on this forum as I learn!
Thanks again!
