Any way to add folders view when opening files in Office XP Pro?

Is there a way to add a folders view when opening a file in applications such
as Word? Outlook allows this. Prior versions of Office had this feature. It
was very easy to jump to any other folder to find a file. It was also
convenient to be able to see where I was in the directory tree before I went
to another file. It is currently awakward to have to use the pulldown list at
the top and only see a partial directory tree. Hope there is a solution. I
feel like I have stepped back to 1990's technology.
