Any way to increase fonts?

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Power PC

Big Excel project - 22 worksheets - apparently too many fonts, because yesterday when changing a font size I received the pop-up message:
"No more fonts may be applied in this workbook."
Is there a solution to this? It will not allow me to go and change fonts to reduce the number - when I attempted this, the same message.

Excel is limited to 512 fonts per workbook. Sounds like a lot to me, but
there is now ay to increase this. Do you have a lot of charts? Are the
charts scaled? If so, the font number may be multiplying by the required
chart scaling.
