anyway to setup rules based on emails arranged by conversation

Is there anyway to setup rules to move say only the first or only the
subsequent messages from emails arranged by conversation or thread view? Is
it just best to view by conversation view and manually move the emails?

What are you trying to achieve?

Rules cannot do this as they are not aware of what you already have received
or what you are going to receive in the future.
