Appendices and sub-Appendices

Hi,

Have a document with 3 Appendices A, B & C. Each have sub
headings i.e. Appendix A.1., Appendix A.2. etc. which are
cross referenced throughout the main body of the
document. How do I set up the headings to suit...read
about using Headings 6 - 9 for this purpose but I'm not
getting the A.1. part to show correctly...or should I
just take the easy option and use heading 7 for A.1.,
heading 8 for B.1. and Heading 9 for C.1.?
