appending pub files

I have a book that was done in publisher, each chapter (30) as a separate
file. Within each document there are separate text boxes, background objects
etc, in addition to the story. I need to combine all the chapters into one
document. Highlighting the Entire Story and copy/paste does not carry over
the extra boxes etc. Is there a way to append, concantenate, or import the
entire contents of one file to the end of the another?
Thanks

I'm willing to be you are hoping for a simple way to do this. Unfortunately
there isn't. Copy and paste is about it. If you happen to have Acrobat (not
just the free Reader) you could create .pdf files of each chapter and
combine them into one .pdf file.

There are several advantages and disadvantages to doing each. You will have
to decide what's important to you and make the appropropriate decision.

Have you created an index for your book? I am working on a similiar project
and am trying to find out how to create the index.

Use Word... Publisher is a page layout program. Word is more suitable for long
documents.

It is already done in Publisher. It's about 400 pages long in about 10
sections. Can you give me any advice? I'm thinking of converting the files
to PDF and then buying software that converts PDF to Word and then running
the index. Do you think this is a good idea? Can you recommend any programs?

Save the Publisher document as a text extension; there are several choices. Rich text
will preserve most of the formatting. You can then open the document in Word. If you
have images, they can be copied and pasted into Word. Try this before buying pricey
new software.
I converted a 16 page publication to rich text and it came out okay, far better than
I expected.

Thanks for the idea but unfortunately it didn't work. The publication we are
working on is very technical and has many figures and tables. When I
converted it, the figures and tables didn't convert (like you said) so it
threw the page numbers off. I would appreciate any other ideas you have.
BYW, why doesn't Publisher have an Indexing feature? I'm sure other people
have run into this problem.

Publisher is geared for desktop publishing. I seriously doubt it will ever have
indexing. Converting to a PDF and then save as a Word document will work. Everything
will be there, but the formatting will be different.
