Application error on opening Word 2000

On a laptop running XP home (SP1) and office 2000, I open
Word type a few characters and instantly I get a "an
appplication eror has occurred" window popping up. I've
tried repairing office, reinstalling office, and as a
last resort loading word XP instead, but I still get the
application error. Even odder is if I switch to a
different user profile, the problem doesn't occur. Any
pointers as to where the problem might lie?

Try renaming "normal.dot" to "normal.old" and then start up Word so it
creates a new copy.
