Office 2000 and Office XP (e.g. 2002) are both obsolete (e.g. no longer
being sold), so talk of "cost" is irrelevant.

Open Office, although free to download, is not cost free in a corporate
environment. You must consider the cost of training your IT staff to roll
out and support Open Office, and you must consider the cost of training your
end users in the use of Open Office.

When comparing Office suites, don't forgot WordPerfect Office from Corel.

That said, the RELATIVE costs of one versus the other depends entirely upon
the vagaries of your own organization. You will have to do your own
research, prepare your own risk matrix, and make the decision that is best
for YOUR organization.

For those who already have Office @K, this may not be an issue, depending
on what sort of support you think you need. If a product you have is
doing the job you need to do, then upgrading is probably a waste of time
and money. Thise considerng upgrades need to figure in the cost of
change. The amount of time spend adapting to or circumventing differences
can be non-trivial. I estimate that it took the equivalent of two full
weeks of work to adapt when my workplace upgraded from 2000 to 2003.
