Apply Document Protection on .dot Files

My company has many electronic documents that are saved as .dot files and we
need to apply document protection to them so that the formatting can not be
changed by all employees. On the first page of the document we need the
header and footer protected, but then when you get to the second page we need
to be able to adjust the header only. For example, our company logo and
footer are on the first page, and then on the second page we have the
name,date, and page number that need to be edited.

Can someone tell me how to accomplish this? i am using the Developer tab to
apply document protection.

Which OS are we talking about here Lindsay ? This can easily be achieved with W2K3
and above
