Apply Master Pages

I am trying to use this feature and have read all about how to use it.
Problem is, the option does not appear anywhere on menus or toolbars, that I
can see at least. Supposedly if you select the Format menu item, there
should be a selection for Apply Master Pages, but it just isn't there -
grayed out or otherwise. Also there is supposed to be an Apply Master Pages
task pane but that is also nowhere to be found. Does anybody know where it
went?

I'm using PP2003, incidentally.

TIA

Go to Format > Slide Design. There should be a Task Pane on the right side of
the screen with thumbnails of the available templates. Place your cursor over
the one that you want and click once. An arrow to the right will appear. Click
on the arrow and you will see the choices you are looking for.

Thanks for your rapid response!

I can find the Slide Design tak pane OK, and see the various templates that
can be applied. But what I'm trying to do is apply Master Page A to
Publication Pages 1-3 and Master Page B to Publication Pages 4-6, etc.
According to the documentation I should be able to do that with the Apply
Master Pages feature.

Are you in Normal view? I'm not sure that I understand what you mean by Master
Page A and B. Some templates have a Slide Master and a Title Master. The Title
Master can only be applied to slides that use the Title Layout. I think I need
to hear more about exactly what you are trying to do.

In the task pane, next to the design you want, there is an arrow, if you
click on it you should see "Apply to All Slides" or "Apply to Selected
Slides". You want to apply it to selected slides - then you'll have masters
A and B.

Yes, I'm definitely in Normal view. Then I select View / Master / Slide
Master and there are two slides that show up. They are very similar, except
that one omits some graphics. I wnat to apply the first master slide to some
of my presentation slides and the second one to the rest. Unless I have
misunderstood the information at
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistance/HP010046181033.aspx , then I
should be able to do this.

Thanks again.

Look more carefully. I'm guessing that both of the masters have title
placeholders, but one also has a Text placeholder, while the other has a
Subtitle place holder. Select the first one and then look at the very bottom of
the screen. Does it say Slide Master? Now select the other one and look at the
bottom. Does it say Title Master?

What you have is a single template with two Masters. One is a Slide Master and
one is a Title Master. The Title Master can only be applied to a Title slide,
i.e. one that uses the Title layout. Layouts can be seen going to Format >
Slide Layout.

Are you using Publisher? This is the PowerPoint newsgroup. The link that you
refer to is for Publisher. Different applications = different instructions.
