Applying "Level Resources" against multiple published project

Does the “Leveling Resources†action affect all tasks of all published
projects on the server? In other words, if I have a resource with assignments
on two published projects, and I only have one checked out and perform a
“level Resource†that resource only, will it also level the task for the same
resource in the other published plan that is not checked out?

No it will not. A good process for handling a resource who is
overallocated across multiple projects is to:

Start Project Pro turning off the View Summary Resource Assignments
checkbox on the initial Project Server screen.

Level the resource using your favorite method.

Save that project and close it.

Go to the other project where the resource is overallocated and level.
Save that project and close it.

Open both with the checkbox turned back on and see if you have solved
the overallocation problem.

Now, if you feel lucky, you can open open both projects in Project
Server and level resource and Project Server WILL level resources
against both projects. So if your project is one of the ones getting
leveled, you might want to bump the priority up a little :)

Mark,

Thanks for your reply, I played around with you suggestions and it meets my
needs. I do have a question. What do you mean by the "View Summary Resource
Assignment" check box? Where is this check box?

When you log into Project Pro and are asked to select which server you
want, that check box is at the bottom of that dialog.

What does this checkbox do? I don't see any documentation on this, not even
in the Project Expert Books (since the feature was added with the SP1, which
was after the books were published). Can you explain what this feature does?

Thanks,

Joe

When you deselect this option and log into Project Server, and then open an
enterprise project, the system loads ONLY the resource assignment
information for the current project. When you select this option and log
into Project Server, and then open an enterprise project, the system loads
the resource assignment information for both the current project and all
other projects to which the resources are assigned. In the Resource Usage
view for the current project, you see these assignments for other projects
as a single summary line for each other project. Hope this helps.

That helps tremendously!!! I was wondering if there was a way to do just
that. Thank you all for your help!
