Appointments in Calendar cannot be entered, calendar stays blank

After entering and hitting the save button for a new appointment, the
calendar stays blank (Outlook 2000). I've tried detect & repair, and
uninstalling and reinstalling Outlook, but the problem persists.

switch to by category view and verify they aren't getting created on a
different date.

I can see the appointments in category view, they display the correct date,
but when I switch back to the normal calendar view, there is nothing
displayed.

FYI, I saved the pst file to another location and deleted the existing pst
file. I reopened Outlook and imported the data. I can now enter appointments
and have them show up properly in the calendar. I'm not sure what the problem
was, some corruption in the old pst file I suppose.
