Approving Timesheet on behalf of another PM

Mike S.

Is there a way to have another Person approve timesheets while the assigned
Project Manager is not available (on vacation or other)?
I assume the project could be republished and the temp PM could take over
the project but that seems so messy.
Just looking for an easy answer.
Thanks!

Mike -

It really isn't messy and it's the only way the new PM would get
updates from the team members. The new PM would open the project in
project server, and in Collaborate, he or she would "Republish
Assignments" and would check the box next to "Become the manager of
these assignments".

When the original PM returned, he or she would do the same process.

If the PM left permanently, then the new PM would do the above, and
also change the name of the "Owner" in the Project Center in PWA, by
clicking next to the project name and then clicking "Edit" in the
action bar.

Hope this helps,

Mike --

The messy way is how to handle it. These is no other way. Hope this helps.

Mark,
We can make this work in general I think.
The part that scares me is how to handle time that was already submitted to
the old PM. How does the temporary PM get to it and accept/reject it? Does
the team member need to resubmit the time somehow? Finally, what happens
when the original PM comes back, is the time still in their update queue?
Thanks again!

If time has been submitted, it will be in the "old" PM's queue. If it
is a planned absence, the PM should tell the team and ask them to not
submitt updates until they see a new message from Project Server. The
"new" PM should customize that message. Effort that has been submitted
can't be unsubmitted. What I have done in the past (working in a mixed
authentication environment) is to change the old PM to PS
authentication, log in as that person and either accept the updates, or
reject them all with a note explaining why.

Mark:

Your factual statements and procedure apply only to Project Server 2002. In
2003, pending updates transfer along with the assignments. Unfortunately,
Mike doesn't mention what version he's using.

Sorry for that - We are using 2003 all the way around. Does the option to
change authentication to PS exist as that would work if available.
