Approving Timsheets Page Question

Wendy

Hello,

Many PMs are also managers. So, they need full ability to add any
resource from the ERP into their plan. However, in PWA, we only want
them to see their direct reports on the Approve Timesheets page.
Currently, they are seeing all timesheets (and able to approve them).

I assume we should be able to allow them to add resources into their
plans yet restrict what they see on the Approve Timesheets page. Can
you advise where this would be set and how to do it?

Thank you very much!

Have you created an RBS outline code structure that mimics your company's
org chart? And if so, have you set an RBS field code value for every
resource in the Enterprise Resource Pool? And if so, have you added the
PM's in question to the Resource Managers group? All three of these
questions indicate steps your Project Server administrator must perform
before you can do what you wish. Let us know.

Dale--

All of the steps you listed have been performed. I was certain about
the RBS-related questions. I just confirmed that the managers are
listed in the Resource Manager group on PWA. I assume there are next
steps that need to be taken? Can you provide me with them?

Thank you so much for your help!

In the Project Managers group, select the My Organization category. Do you
have the Approve Timesheets for Resources option selected in the Permissions
grid? If so, deselect it. Now select the My Projects category. If you
have the Approve Timesheets for Resources option selected, again deselect
it. You should only have that permission selected in my Resource Managers
group with the My Direct Reports category selected. Let me know if this
helps.

Hi Dale,

Thanks for your response. I do have Approve Timesheets selected for the
PM group. However, the way we've set up approvals is that PMs use the
Updates page to allow the updates into their plan (which is dictated by
the Approve Timesheets function, correct?) and Managers use the Approve
Timesheets function within the Resources section (dicated by Timesheet
Approval function, correct?).

With this set up as the case, am I still able to do as you indicated
below or will that require additional work (or it even possible in this
scenario)?

Thank you,
Wendy

Your first assumption is totally incorrect. When set to allow in any Group,
the Approve Timesheets for Resources permission allows the user to approve
timesheets for the resources specified in the selected Category. It has
NOTHING to do with updating progress from the PWA Updates page. My
suggestion would be to follow the advice I have given you and see if it
works. Let us know if it helps.
