Archive Database

Q

Questioner

Hello,

I like to learn as much as possible about the Archive Database. Does someone
know where can I find information about it?

The function of the archive database is to provide an opportunity for single
instance restore, for projects, custom fields, resources etc. I imagine most
organisations will have a scheduled backup to the archive database, keeping
one or (at most) two weeks worth of data (the retention policy) (assuming
projects change daily). This then allows a single project to re reinstated
to a previous state using the administrative restore. Note that WSS
information (issues, risks docs) will not be restored, and therefore any new
links may not exist. The database is not documented and therefore it is not
proposed that it be accessed.

Also, the archive database is not a replacement for SQL backups.

Questioner --

There is very little information available right now on Project Server 2007,
simply because the software is so very new. We are currently working on our
first two books on Project Server 2007, but they won't be published any time
soon. So, you are wise to ask your question in this newsgroup.
Essentially, the Archive database is where the Project Server administrator
can back up enterprise objects, either manually or on a regular cycle. The
Project Server administrator can back up enterprise projects, the Enterprise
Resource Pool, the Enterprise Global file, and other objects as well. If
need be, the Project Server administrator can then individually restore any
of the backed up objects. Is there more you wish to know? If so, let us
know. Hope this helps.
