Archive file is gone

I was attempting to copy my archived Outlook email to move to a new computer.
I went to the source .pst file, right clicked and attempted to open in
Outlook...the computer froze for a second and now the file doesn't contain
anything. It was over 500 megabytes and is now only 26kb. I searched my
hard drive and there is no file anywhere close to the original size. Are the
old emails gone for ever? Please help.

Was the original Outlook closed when you copied it? How did you move it to
the new PC? What versions are the old and new Outlooks? Have you run
SCANPST.EXE on the PST? (Right-click>Open with is NOT the way to open a
PST).
