Archive not pulling messages out of inbox

I have used the archive tool to archive all messages before a certain date.
When I go back to my inbox folder, none of the messages have been removed. I
checked the archive folder and the messages are also there. Is there some
setting that I should be checking to remove the emails from my inbox?

Archiving works on date last modified. Have you moved those emails more
recently?
