Archive Problems

Recently, Outlook's archival function appears to "lose" my old calendar data.
Any ideas what's going on? Can I somehow recover the "lost" data?

Please be more preceise in describing your symptoms. Include your Outlook
version as well.

Some months ago Outlook prompted me, asking if I wanted to auto-archive my
old calendar items. As always, I clicked on the "yes" box. However, when I
tried to look at my "archived" calendar, there were no entries for the days
in question.

I tried using the Tools, Options, Other, AutoArchive menu to trace the
default routing where the files were being sent. The address below is what
was in the box, which looks right.

C:\Documents and Settings\Jonathon Andell\Local Settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\archive.pst

The problem remains that I cannot find my archived files after 31 October
2007. Can they be recovered? If not, can I at least get the files sent to the
right place?

suggestions what to do with them?

Were the entries in your default calendar gone? Just because Outlook asks
if you want to autoarchive old items doesn't mean there were any old items
to archive. The Calendar folder under the "Archive" root appearing empty
seems to support that.

YES THEY WERE GONE.

Did you enable the option to view your archive folders in the Folder List?
Tools>Options>Other>AutoArchive>Show archive folder in folder list?

THE "SHOW ARCHIVE FOLDER" BOX IS CHECKED, AND TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE IT
ALWAYS HAS BEEN.

When you right-click the root of the Archive folders and choose Properties,
does the name match any PST you've seen on your hard drive (it should, but
you haven't mentioned anything named "Archive.pst", which is an archive
PST's default name)?

It looks like you aren't showing extensions -
Archive = archive.pst
JLAhotmail* = the file for your hotmail account
outlook = outook.pst, the default personal folders file.

In Outlook, right click on the archive folder and choose properties then advanced button to see the path it uses.

First I'd like to get a better idea of the problem then. You started this
thread by claiming Outlook's Archive function lost data yet now you claim
you have no archive file. I just don't see how that's possible.

Oops I completely read your reply incorrectly. I saw "There is NO file
Archive" rather than "There is a file Archive". Sorry.

OK. So, your Archive PST is there. If it doesn't appear int he folder
list, open that Archive from within Outlook by clicking File>Open>Outlook
Data File. Look in its folders. Are your messages there?

I am able to access an archive folder with a bunch of deleted messages. Still
not sure whether this gives me access to old calendar entries, but at least
the messages seem to be there.

Now what?
