Archive.pst files not accessible

When I try to open a personal .pst archice file it will show up in the Folders List, but when I select the Inbox or other folder in the archive I get the error

"Unable to display the folder. Could not complete the operation. One or more parameter values are not valid.

The file exists and definitely has data in it. I can actually copy the folders anywhere under Outlook Today and then the messages are visible. I also ran scanpst.exe on the archive.pst file and there were no errors detected. What is wrong with my Outlook
