Archiving

Hi gang!

Got an email archiving dilemma here!

I have a user who's database has reached 19 gigs.
We are on Exchange using Entourage 2004 with the latest updates.
Intel Mac Pro 10.4.11.

His boot disk is full because the MS database lives in his Documents folder.

Does anyone know if there is a way to remove the email he has archived from
his Exchange inbox, to a subfolder he created under Folders on My Computer,
and point it to a secondary drive without having to import the archive
folders?

Or maybe move the entire Microsoft User Data folder/directory somewhere else
and point Office to it?

Anyone got any tips on this?

Thanks!
Marc

I'm unclear as to the "without having to import the archive folders?
". Can you explain this for me?

AutoArchive Exchange Account to "On My Computer"

Move all e-mail older than 60 days from your Exchange account folders to
archive folders within the "On My Computer" folder tree.

Since his database is so large, I'm not sure how this script will react.
It's easy to modify the older than time in the script so I would recommend
doing this and moving the mail over in smaller bits.

Once you get the mail into the "Folders on My Computer" you can drag folders
to the desktop as MBOX files. I recommend this as a good secondary backup.
Or maybe move the entire Microsoft User Data folder/directory somewhere else
and point Office to it?

You can alias the Microsoft User Data folder or symlink it. You can also use
an external drive for Microsoft User Data folder with alias in Documents
folder.

One user explains how they use this method:

I keep my Microsoft User Data folder on an external pocket firewire drive (a
large capacity USB thumb-drive will suffice if both machines have USB 2.0)
and just keep aliases to it in my Documents folder of all the machines I use
Entourage on (laptop, desktop and occasionally other machines I sit down in
front of for a few hours). Works like a charm and gives me an identical
environment on every machine. You must quit the Microsoft Database daemon in
order to eject the drive.

explains how to make chronological backups like Time Machine. Can be used by
both Tiger and Leopard users.
