Hi,
none of our users seem to be able to communication. Is anyone aware if the
servers are down again?

I am having a similar issue where I have one user that is on
blugro3relay.groove.microsoft.com and others are on
blugro2relay.groove.microsoft.com and he can't see anyone that is online. We
can see each other but he appears to be offline when he isn't.

I'm having the same problem, we are a team of 5, and we haven't been able to
synchronize with eachother since last week sometime. yesterday was a no go,
and today doesn't seem any better. what's up??!!

Well I had my remote users connect to our network via our VPN and one said
that he stayed connected for several hours until he had to disconnect to
connect to a customer VPN but before he connected to the other VPN he was
able to see more users. I haven't heard from our other remote user having
the same issue.

Both remote users with this issue have a successful Internet connection so
I'm not sure what it has to do with being connected on the VPN but at this
point I'll take about anything I can get.

I really think it's a communications issue between the Microsoft servers for
some reason they don't seem to be able to talk to each other or share
information.

For whatever it is worth, my team and I are experiencing the same issues. It
is strange that the Groove client does not alert you to any issues, when it
certainly appears that are. I just noticed this today - yesterday,
everything was working fine...

I am from a group of 7 and we are having the same issue, We have done
nothing new, althought there has been short spurts that parts of our user
group can update, while most of us can't. Also having trouble sending out
messages and other data.

I wonder if Microsoft is even reading these posts. Do they not see a pattern
/ problem here, are the working on a solution, are they ignoring these posts,
don't have any recommendation whatsoever?

At least acknowledge if there is a problem or not. Knowing that you see a
problem and are working to resolve it is better than not knowing.

How does one even contact Microsoft to alert them that they have an issue?
Does anyone know? Do MS employees get vacation over the holidays?

I've noticed Groove reconnect sporadically over the past few days, but it is
far more often down than up.

I just came by to check on news and saw this thread. I know that we haven't
had any support cases come in about Relay issues, and there haven't been any
failures that generated IT alerts.

If there is a problem with Groove servers (other than the internal ones),
the people in IT are usually the first to know. Occasionally, there will be a
problem that doesn't generate errors. In that case, support usually hears
about it promptly anyway, because multiple customers open support cases. It's
possible that enough customers are on vacation that the people who would
usually notice and report problems with Groove relays just aren't using
Groove much this week, or that the problems are only affecting scattered
users and no one with a support contract. The newsgroups are not a good way
to contact Support quickly, as they are not formally monitored. For future
reference, you can open a support case at
https://support.microsoft.com/oas/default.aspx?&gprid=11630.

I've alerted Groove Support to these reports, and the Support Engineer I
talked to is alerting IT, so the matter is now under investigation.

R

Rox

OK so you want us to open a case with you and get charged $250 / hr so that
you can fix your own servers? I only get 5 support cases / year I'm not
about to waste it on telling you to fix your servers.

M

matt b.

Frances - whatever you did appears to have solved the issue. Thank you.

Regarding support - it is hard to deal with the pay-for-support link you
sent when I think many of us don't think we should have to pay for a support
issue that was clearly the responsibility of Microsoft, given that it
certainly appears that one of their relay servers was offline for more than a
week.

Is there a better way to alert Microsoft of potential issues that does not
involve being billed?

matt

R

Rox

Well Matt, I'm glad yours is fixed but I still have users that can't see each
other. I've created a new account for one user and he was fine for about a
day but now he can't see anyone again, even himself online.

G

gonow

Very confusing. blugro2 is connecting, blugro3 is not. Why can't they put a
"server is working normally" status message on a page to match the IP address
(or something; rather than just no clue or a £250 email). At least we would
then know a little bit more, one issue to eliminate. And leave us with more
hair and a bit less chewed carpet.

M

matt b.

Well, then I am not going to hold my breath that everything is fixed for me
yet, either!

I'm surprised that there is not some kind of failover mechanism so that even
if one of the relays goes down, users can get redirected to one that is
available. Save that, what about a way to alert us that the server is down
and prompt us to manually switch to another. The issue I see with this
particular problem is that on the surface, everything appears to be working.
The user is never alerted that there is a communication problem unless you
dig way into the network communication tab...

matt

As far as I can tell we don't have any way of controlling which server we are
connected to unless I've missed it somewhere.

C

This is completely unacceptable for a corporate tool. Although, I am a new
Groove user, but typically consumer related tools like messenger have a
better response time, and better communication.

B

Brenna

My company is having the same issue as everyone else. When someone gets a
response or resolve could you please post it so we know what we should do?
Thank you!

Frances Selkirk [MSFT]

If one account doesn't work, but a new account works, and then that same new
account stops working, I can think of no way, technically, for that to be a
relay server issue. If the two accounts use the same server, and the problem
was on the server, than either both accounts should work or neither should.

Appearing offline to himself could also not be a relay issue, as presence on
the LAN does not use the relay. Are you sure the user doesn't have two
accounts with the same name? See "When you use the same account information
on two computers that are running Groove, the computers do not share data" at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;907424

If he is using the account on multiple computers, you may also want to look
at "You experience presence and delivery services issues when you use a
Groove account on multiple computers" at
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;922168
