Are there known problems bet Office 2000 (Power Point) and 2003?

I am unable to view comments inserted by someone using Office 2003
Powerpoint. I am using Office 2000.
Is there a known compatability issue? I don't have any problems with people
using Office 2000, just 2003.

There are features that may be used in Office 2003 products that won't work
on Office XP, Office 2000 or Office 97 products since those features are not
included in the newer versions (hence the newer "name" for the product. If
you are showing the presentation you may be able to use the PPT viewer to
show the files successfully. Both PPT and the viewer will coexist on the
same computer but you have to make sure that you start the viewer and then
select File/Open to start the presentation. If you just click on the data
file the regular PPT will normally start.

You can download the PPT Viewer here. (watch wrap of URL)

Thank you, BUT I am able to view the file, just cannot display comments that
the reviewer wrote. Is that a known problem, or is there something unique to
having 2003 version that 2000 has to do?

You might try looking at the comparison table at this
Microsoft site. It may show the cause of the problem you
are experiencing.

It still may be down to the features of the different office
versions. I am not sure about the commenting features
between the two programs.

During my testing of the comment features between Office
PowerPoint versions 97, 2002 (XP) & 2003 (I don't have 2000
installed on the computer I currently have access to) I
found that a comment that is created in ver. 97 can be seen
and edited on all later versions but those created in 2003
or 2002 (XP) can't be seen in 97. This may be the problem
with 2000. If I can get my version of 2000 working when I
get back to work, I'll check it out there (but I won't be
back there till Wed. of next week.

Tried it, no luck. Just so it's clear, I sent a ppt file to someone who
placed comments on several slide and I was unable to view them. I am using
2000 and the other party 2003.

I understand your problem. A file created in a version of
ppt that is modified in a newer version may have a feature
added that is not available in the previous version. This I
did and explained with the PPT. 97 - 2003 test I just sent
to the NG.

Since you are using the older version you may not be able to
see or use things that were modified on the newer version.
Since I can't view comments created in Office 2002 or 2003
with 97 (again, I don't have access to 2000 right now) I
know that the comments feature was modified either for 2000
or 2002 but since I don't have access to 2000 right now I
don't know which version was modified. Even the view menu
Item name changed between 97 and 2002's version. In 97 it
is called Comment and in 2002 it is called Markup. What is
it called in the View menu in 2000? If it is still called
Comment there and Comment in the Insert menu it takes after
the 97 version. If it is called Markup in the View menu and
Comment in the Insert menu it should be the same as the
2002-03 versions.
