Arg! FrontPage 2002 w/extentions publishing problems

Chris

Please, please save me from tossing my laptop out the window! For the past
SIX hours I have been trying to publish my webpage on to my site with such
problems! Whenever I try to publish I get the following error:

"unable to open'http://mywebpage.com'.
Server Error:
Possible causes:
1. The web server may not have the FrontPage Server Extensions installed.
2. The web server may be temporarily out of service.
3. If you are connecting through a proxy server, the proxy settings may be
incorrect
4. An error may have occured in the web server.

Ok. After a completely USELESS phonecall to my hosting provider, I
confirmed that :
1. My web server has extensions installed
2. My web server is in service
3. I have no idea what proxy settings are...and they do not know either.
4. I'm not sure what is causing the error and they don't know either.

Interestingly, a few months ago, I had the same issue with another domain.
I eventially got it published, and something told me that it was something I
had to do on my laptop. I can still update that site, but on my new domain,
I can't get in.

Help!

Hi Chris,
Don't know the answer, but I've been having the same problem on our work
server for the last week. The good news is that we have access to firewalls
and client/server at both ends of the link and so will modify and test until
we get a solution. Hopefully soon! I'll let you know if we get it working.

I've been trying a few different things, including the list suggested in
this group at the link
http://www.interlacken.com/winnt/tips/tipshow.aspx?tip=24 Haven't tried
18/19 yet (reinstalling frontpage as well as the OS and Explorer and their
respective service packs), as it seems to be happening on two different
client machines with relatively new installs. You would think that
eliminates the OS and Explorer. The server -is- a fresh install. To my
mind, it seems to be something else, but I'm running out of options.

Anyone else out there with ideas - you'll be helping two poor souls in this
case!

Johnathan.

You said "new domain." How long has it been active, and how long since you or the host configured
the name servers??

It takes 48 to 72 hours for new domains to propagate throughout the Domain Name Server system, and
until it has "propagated" you will *not* be able to publish to http://domainname.com because
FrontPage ( and your computer ) won't know at what IP address the "domain" lives.
