Arrows not showing up on screen

Someone emailed me a word document, with text, pictures, and arrows
(made from within Word). When I print the document, the arrows show up,
but they do not appear on my screen when viewing the file. Is there
some sort of check box that needs to be toggled to get this to happen?
I've never seen this happen before. How do I get the arrows to show up?

Look in Tools, Options, View, and see what may toggle them on.

The only boxes not selected are:
Bookmarks
Smart Tags
Picture Placeholders
Field Codes
-Everything under Formatting Marks-
Object Anchors
Text Boundaries
Background colors

None of these seem to indicate what I'm looking for, but I've tried
toggling them just in case and still no arrows. There must be an option
to turn them off on the screen but send them to the printer.

Is it happening in all the views? Print, Web and Normal? You might go
into your Display Properties, Settings, Advanced, Troubleshoot, and move
the Hardware acceleration slider left a notch or two and see if that
clears the issue.

Well I decided to see what would happen if I tried to draw some arrows
myself, so I clicked on the menu bar and turned on the DRAWING toolbar,
and suddenly the arrows appeared. Now I turned the toolbar off and the
arrows are still there. Good to know. I thought Word would just turn
them on automatically, but I guess somethings you have to do manually.

Good to hear they appeared.
