Assign numerical value to text in a cell

I am working with a football roster in excel. I have 22 differen
positions listed on the roster. I would like to assign a number (1-22
to each position so that I can sort the roster in order by position. Ho

Hi, very much depends on what criteria you'll be using to sort.

I've built many sports related workbooks over the years so happy to hel
out here. But perhaps a little more information and an example workboo
would help clarify what it is you need..
