Assign recordcount to variable

I have a query with one output field which counts records that meet certain
criteria in a table.

How can I assign this value to a variable in a module.

Try

VariableName = DlookUp("FieldName","QueryName")

Why not just use DCount() as in lngRecordCount = DCount([parameters])
