Assign Users to Project Plan

OK so i set up a new project and published it to Project Server. When i
login i can see everything, the project is in the Projects area.

I added a ProjectServer user (not windows user) and I want to add this
person to the project as a resource.

How am i supposed to do this?

I have tried everything -- but i assume I am supposed to use "Build Team
From Project Server" inside Project.

Well they never show up there. How do i specify the user to be an available
resource for projects? They are "active" and in Project Server.

Also, How do I give rights to view the specific project in "Projects"
without adding them to the Executive group. I want my team members to be
able to see the full project they are working on.

Thanks.

Project Server Users and Project Resources are two
different objects. Resources are built in MSPRoject wither
directly entering, or drawing from users in a directory or
from the project server user accounts. Use the help
function about building team from server.

As for viewing the whole project, they can do that under
the Projects section, if they have the appropriate access,
as set up in the admin section. There are multiple levels
of security, access, and capabilities. Read the help on
security. There are group (Team Members) or individual
level settings. Its rather complicated so you need to read.

I have read the help on both counts and it unforutunately did not jump out
at me.

To clarify, i added a user through the admin interface of Project Server.

I am now trying to:
Do you want to:

Add resources from Project Server <-----
Add resources from the company Address Book
Add resources from the company directory
Enter resources manually

From within MS Project, but when i do this only my Project Users with
Windows accounts can be seen. What is the purpose of Project Server accounts
if I cannot assign them to projects?

A user may or may not be part of the Enterprise Resource
Pool which is where your resources from Project Server
selection is looking. Open Project Pro using an account
with admin permissions. go to Tools> Enterprise options >
Open Enterprise Resource Pool. Select all and open. These
are the resources that are available for assignments.
Hope this helps....

So these are the only resources that are available? What about project users
that are created in project? What is their function if they cannot be a part
of a project without being associated with a user account?

We fumbled our way through adding users here, and observed that there were
issues with accounts that were not in the GAL. Is there a definitive read on
where and when to create which kind of accounts?

I know that Enterprise Features affect these choices as well...

Definative Read: Several posters on this site have
recommended Gary Chefetz's book

I purchased a couple of Project 2003 books, one a
Microsoft Press book. They were ok. Both had good
definitions of resource types. The Online help and this
forum have been better though.
Keep in mind that Project was developed so that users
could define materials (i.e. equpiment, office supplies,
freight, and other things that are not labor but still
comsummed in a project), which would never have user
accounts, as resources.
Yes, the security template settings affect whether new
users can be created by current ones.
