Assigning alternative resource while primary resource is on leave - anyone know how?

Just a quick example:

Task 'Build Walls' is due to run from 6th October for 15 days and Bob
is assigned to do the work. However, Bob is on leave from 13th October
for 5 days. I'd like Joe to build the walls while Bob is away enjoying
himself, and for Bob to pick the work back up and complete the job when
he returns on 20th October.

Is there a way to do this in Project, without creating multiple tasks?

Not automatically which I guess is what you are actually asking. There
is no way that the application can know that you only want Joe to work
on the task whilst Bob is away hence you will have to enter that
information yourself.

You don't have to enter multiple tasks. If you assign Bob to the task
then the task will be scheduled around his leave (if that has been
programmed in). You can then just allocate Joe to the same task for
Bob's absence.

Hi Abo,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup :)

I'd just use the Task Usage view, assign Joe to the task, and change the
Work hours for both to meet your need.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: http://project.mvps.org/faqs.htm

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on :)
