Assigning Macro's (to autoshapes or to toolbar buttons)

If I rename the xls file my macro assigment is no longer valid and I am
prompted with the "Assign Macro" dialog.

I noticed when assigning a macro, if I select "In this Workbook" the macro
assigment = the macro name but if I close the dialog and open it again the
assigment includes the xls file name + the macro name. If I rename the xls
file this assigment is no longer sync'ed with the new filename and obviously
the button stops working. So the question would seem to be, how do you
assign a macro so it is tolerant of file name changing?

I can't reproduce the problem. For me, the macro assignment survives
the name change operation. But, have you tried choosing the "All open
workbooks" option?
