Assigning Tasks to nonOutlook clients

Is there a way to assign tasks to non-Outlook clients? Lotus Notes for
example? For example, you can send calendar invitations and that
invokes and "ICS" compatible format and allows for sharing between Notes
and Outlook. I wanted to know if there is a similar standard for Tasks.

I am using Outlook 2003.

No. Outlook does not support any interoperability scheme for tasks.
