Association line in V2003 Brainstorming diagram

When I try to create an association (dotted) line between two otherwise
unrelated topics in a Visio 2003 brainstorming diagram, any previously
existing connector from the second topic I link with the association line
disappears, i.e. any dependency is broken and replaced by this "association
line". This seem in contradiction with the online help instructions (and
against good practice in heuristic diagrams)

How do I create an association line between two existing topics in
brainstorming diag without breaking existing dependency connectors then ?
